So last summer I was feeling the need to lighten up a little bit so I looked into getting highlights at a few Atlanta Hair Salons. Eventually I found one that had a good price and seemed to have great service too. Click here to check out the salon i went to. I showed up for my appointment excited to go a little blonder. My stylist told me she liked to use the balayage method of highlighting. I was used to foils so I asked her to explain the method.  Basically, with balayage the stylist paints the color on rather than wrapping everything up in foils. This allows the colorist to place the highlights more naturally and is also less damaging because the foils hold heat in, which causes damage. So she went back and mixed my color. We decided my highlights would be two colors: a honey blonde color, and a slightly lighter golden blonde for just a few accent pieces. She started painting. She didn’t put too many highlights on the bottom layers of my hair. She said that having a darker color underneath would help my hair appear thicker. She painted the color mostly toward the top layers. When she got to the front of my hair she used the lighter highlight color. She said the naturally in the sun the front of your hair tends to highlight a bit more so that’s the reasoning behind that. Once she was done I left the hair salon looking like I’d spent a week at the beach! I felt ready to go out  on the town in Atlanta!
